The 30um diameter gold plated tungston wire is split in half and rejoined by fusing both ends to a glass tube. The middle of the glass tube is pre-fused (center-melt) to prevent electrical contact between the 2 sections of the wire, hence dividing the wire into 2 separate electrical channels.
